Irish Soda Bread

A staple in Irish households, especially for breakfast or as a side dish to meals. Made with just a few ingredients (flour, baking soda, buttermilk, and salt), this bread is quick and easy to prepare. Sometimes, raisins or caraway seeds are added for extra flavour, and it’s often served with butter and jam.

Irish Soda Bread

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Flour

  • ⅔ cup Sugar

  • 3 tsp. Baking Powder

  • 1 tsp. Salt

  • 1 tsp. Baking Soda

  • 1 cup Raisins

  • 2 Eggs

  • 1 ½ cup Buttermilk

  • 1 tbsp. Canola Oil

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F

  2. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, baking soda together into mixing bowl – Mix in raisins

  3. Beat eggs – Set aside 1 tbsp. beaten egg

  4. Mix buttermilk, canola oil, remaining beaten eggs together into separate mixing bowl – Mix in flour mixture

  5. Transfer batter into baking pan – Brush the top of batter with reserved 1 tbsp. of beaten egg

  6. Bake for 45-50mins. – Let cool for 10mins. before serving
