Preservation Tips
For soring dried goods in airtight containers for long-term preservation, here are some effective tips:
🔒 1. Use Oxygen Absorbers
Place oxygen absorbers inside jars or Mylar bags to extend shelf life and prevent spoilage from oxidation or pests.
🫙 2. Choose the Right Containers
Use food-grade glass jars, Mylar bags, or vacuum-sealed bags. Avoid plastic containers that aren’t designed for food storage.
🌡️ 3. Store in a Cool, Dry Place
Heat and humidity are enemies of dried goods. Aim for temperatures below 70°F (21°C), with low humidity to prevent mold or spoilage.
💨 4. Vacuum Seal for Extra Protection
Vacuum sealing removes air and creates a tight seal, ideal for long-term storage of dried foods like beans, grains, or herbs.
🪳 5. Freeze First (Optional for Pests)
For items like flour or rice, freeze them for 48–72 hours before storing to kill any insect eggs or larvae.
📅 6. Label Everything
Always label with the name of the item and the packing date. This makes rotation easier and ensures you use the oldest stock first (FIFO method).
🚫 7. Avoid Moisture Traps
Never open containers in a humid environment, and don’t store wet or oily foods using dry preservation methods
